Damn it's cold!

Spring, hmmmm what's that? It seems we're not destined to have spring this year. We've had nice days +19 and really that is a nice day, but when it drops to close to 0 the next day and you have to turn your heat back on in May it makes me cranky. The plus, Kamryns U8 all girls team soccer game was cancelled on Tuesday. Seems the U8 boys team still had to play. All I can say is this parent appreciated not having to stand outside on Tuesday in the freezing, cold, howling wind. Ya I'm a wimp.

I guess being a Manitoban at heart this weather shouldn't really surprise me. I remember many a May long weekend bundle up in winter clothes sitting beside the campfire.

It's hard to convince Jillian that it's not really dress weather, the girl is in a I LOVE DRESSES mode. It is so funny. Everyday when she gets up it's "can I wear a dress Mommy?" You know it's a true obsessesion when she talks about dresses in her sleep, which she does or so I discovered at 4am the other morning after she had climbed into bed with us. Funny kid!

I had a very nice Mother's Day, we had a b-b-que with my Aunt and cousins. An overall nice quiet day, my favorite kind. We also had our 1st batch of Santa Fe salad of the year! Mmmmmm I love me some Santa Fe salad.

My family made sure I had cards and all the fun stuff that goes with Mother's Day. Here is the card I received from my kitty Piper.

A Mother's Day
HAIKU
from the Cat

Nice lady pets me
Scoops the poop out of my box
I call her mommy

Happy Mother's day
Love, the Cat

Boy did I giggle, Carlton Cards made my day.

I miss my Mom, especially on days like Mother's Day. It's days like this (one of many) that always makes me wonder why I agreed to moving. I'm so glad I have my girls with me, they truly make the days worthwhile.

REMISSION

It's a word with many meanings. Do we think about these meanings. I myself not so much.

re·mis·sion
1.
A)The act of remitting.
B)A condition or period in which something is remitted.
C)Medicine Abatement or subsiding of the symptoms of a disease.
D)The period during which the symptoms of a disease abate or subside.
E)Release, as from a debt, penalty, or obligation.
F)Forgiveness; pardon.

Is it a natural instinct to ignore the word remission in it's true meaning? That the problem it doesn't really go away? That it will likely come back again and possible again and again after that? That it can be a very short remission, like a year and then someone you love is faced with the battle once again. The battle to fight the dreaded "C" word since you are no longer in "remission". Cancer is not a kind word it, I think affects more people that it doesn't. Don't we all know someone that has had cancer??

I posted about a friend that was battling Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia APL (I've tried to link the post but still not sure if I've figured it out it was posted Aug 13/07 since I don't tink the link thingy worked)
as of a week ago this past Friday the fight was back on. A wonky blood test resulted in a Bone Marrow Biopsy a fast result and bam back in the hospital for chemo the following day.

See this is where my misunderstanding of the word remission comes in. I mean don't they do chemo to kill the cancer so it doesn't come back? Isn't that what all the evil drugs, the losing your hair, the throwing up, the feeling like you are at deaths door are about? To KILL THE CANCER?? But then I guess that would be a cure and there isn't really a cure for cancer is there? Well atleast not that they tell us, is there money in a cure? Likely not as much as in the treatments provided (but that is a discussion for another day)

My bubble was bursted when the real meaning of "remission" was kindly pointed out to me by my Mom (thank you by the way as I was clueless, really I was). I really did think that when you went into remission it wasn't going to come back, ever.

So I sit here now 14 hours away from my life long friend and all I can offer her is phone calls of support, my love and I don't know. It is times like this that being away from home really sucks.

Please pray for my friend Jennifer and her family as she battles this round of APL

Is it really April 24

I guess it really is, I almost fell off my chair when I saw my last post was Jan 2!! Ummm wow. I have been stuck in a rut of do I really have anything exciting to say?

What has been going on?? Lets see?

January - I turned 35
- my DH turned 40 and I threw him a little surprise party, it was awesome.
- it was pretty dang cold this month.

February - I started back to work at the Full House Lottery, which I did last year for the 1st time. I love getting a little paycheck every 2 weeks. I like being valued for the work I do there.
- my sister and her family lost everything they had in an apartment fire, thankfully they all got out safely.
- registered K & J for soccer, can't wait til it starts well except the days K & J overlap and DH is working nights and gone by then. We had it so easy the last couple of years LOL.
- still pretty dang cold

March - still working the weekends plus Monday. I love coming home to dinner on the table, my DH is the best.
- my teenager is the best for watching her sisters for me on Mondays till I get home and for cooking supper for her Dad and sisters the Mondays I work. She has matured so much.
- registered the teenager for high school!! Yup already. There were so many options to choose from we got a headache, man if I had been so lucky when I went to high school and just when you think you have it all down pat we have "the three" BAM we needed to choose 3 more alternatives "just in case".
- the snow starts to melt, it disappears quite fast.
- then comes back and disappears again

April - still working (yah I'm loving it LOL)
- a dear family friend passes away, quite peacefully at the age of 86. He is reunited with his Norma. RIP Peter.
- found the "shoes" to go with Morgyn's grad dress the girl is seriously obsessed, it's so cute.
- have had some lovely days, and then some not so lovely days. Mother Nature is kinda confused it seems. But being a Manitoba girl at heart you learn to be prepared and you don't pack away the winter stuff because well Alberta seems to me mirroring Manitoba alot lately.

So that is my little world in a nutshell. Will try and keep up with my sadly neglected blog.

And So Begins Another Year

Yay! We survived the holidays at our house. The last 2 weeks have been so busy it finally caught up to me and I've been the "Nap Queen" the last 2 days. Luckily Bruce was home and entertained the girls while I slugged away sleeping, he is such a good man.

We had a nice quiet New Year's we dined on veggies and dip, cheese and crackers, pickles and olives with some meat. Yumm-O. Easy peasy and the girls loved it. We lit the basement up with candles, who needs a fireplace LOL (I would love one) and watched movies and drank wine. The kiddos even had a bottle of "wine" for themselves. Bliss I tell ya, we also munched on a taco dip I had made earlier.

New Year's Day we made scalloped potatoes and a ham. Yumm-O again LOL. I love scalloped potatoes loaded with onions, mmmmmm. Bruce does not so we made a plain boring one for him and the girls. We then watched the Fox and the Hound 2.

It seems that we've got another deep freeze going on, do I mind that I haven't been out of the house since Tuesday?? Not at all. Tomorrow morning the forecast is call for -41 with the windchill :-0 and then in the next breath it says +2 on Monday, which doesn't coincide with the weather station which says -7?? Weird. I'll take the +2 though. So tomorrow is turkey soup making day, ooooooh I can feel the warmth now.

So how was your New Year's?
