Happy Birthday Kamryn

Here she is on her last night as a 7 year old. I snuck in after she fell asleep.

Eight years ago today our lives were blessed with this sweet girl. What a joy she is, such a kind, compassionate, caring, friendly, smart and loving girl (I can toot my own DD's horn right?). This girl of mine is so much like me in some ways, she is a sensitive soul and doesn't bat an eyelash when the tears come when she is watching a show or a movie. She is so like her Dad in many ways too, she looks just like him and she has some ways that are not exactly lady like which she definately got from Daddy.

Kamryn is a reader, never far is a book from her hand. I love to see her engrossed in a book, I love when we read together (we're reading the Little House on the Prairie books at the moment). Her word recognition is beyond her Gr 2 level and it shows in her reading immensly, she works so hard every week to study for her spelling test and enjoys school very much. She has lucked into some awesome teachers in her 1st 3 years of school and I am so grateful for that.

Just before school this morning, it was sports day so she wore her soccer uniform. We're having a little celebration tonight and tomorrow is dinner and maybe a movie. Love you my girl. xoxoxoxo

I'm a 2

This is a fun little game that my friend Wendy posted. It has NO TAGGING ... DON'T WORRY. It's safe to read on.

Here's how you find your number:
Add your birth date, your month, and your four digit birth year.
That will equal a four digit number.Add those four digits together. That will equal a two digit number.
Add those two digits together. That's your number:

Here's my example:
1 + 7 + 1974 = 1982
1 + 9 + 8 + 2 = 2o
2 + 0= 2
Your Birth Number : 2

Here's your "personality type" based on your number:

1. The Originator : 1's are originals. Coming up with new ideas and executing them is natural. Having things their own way is another trait that gets them labeled as being stubborn and arrogant. 1's are extremely honest and do well to learn some diplomacy skills. They like to take the initiative and are often leaders or bosses, as they like to be the best. Being self-employed is definitely helpful for them. Lesson to learn: Others' ideas might be just as good or better and to stay open minded.

2. The Peacemaker : 2's are the born diplomats. They are aware of others' needs and moods and often think of others before themselves. Naturally analytical and very intuitive they don't like to be alone. Friendship and companionship is very important and can lead them to be successful in life, but on the other hand they'd rather be alone than in an uncomfortable relationship. Being naturally shy they should learn to boost their self-esteem and express themselves freely and seize the moment and not put things off.

3. The Life of the Party : 3's are idealists. They are very creative, social, charming, romantic, and easygoing. They start many things, but don't always see them through. They like others to be happy and go to great lengths to achieve it. They are very popular and idealistic. They should learn to see the world from a more realistic point of view.

4. The Conservative :4's are sensible and traditional. They like order and routine. They only act when they fully understand what they are expected to do. They like getting their hands dirty and working hard. They are attracted to the outdoors and feel an affinity with nature. They are prepared to wait and can be stubborn and persistent. They should learn to be more flexible and to be nice to themselves.

5. The Nonconformist : 5's are the explorers. Their natural curiosity, risk taking, and enthusiasm often lands them in hot water. They need diversity, and don't like to be stuck in a rut. The whole world is their school and they see a learning possibility in every situation. The questions never stop. They are well advised to look before they take action and make sure they have all the facts before jumping to conclusions.

6. The Romantic : 6's are idealistic and need to feel useful to be happy. A strong family connection is important to them. Their emotions influence their decisions. They have a strong urge to take care of others and to help. They are very loyal and make great teachers. They like art or music. They make loyal friends who take the friendship seriously. 6's should learn to differentiate between what they can change and what they cannot.

7. The Intellectual : 7's are the searchers. Always probing for hidden information, they find it difficult to accept things at face value. Emotions don't sway their decisions. Questioning everything in life, they don't like to be questioned themselves. They're never off to a fast start, and their motto is slow and steady wins the race. They come across as philosophers and being very knowledgeable, and sometimes as loners. They are technically inclined and make great researchers uncovering information. They like secrets. They live in their own world and should learn what is acceptable and what not in the world at large.

8. The Big Shot : 8's are the problem solvers. They are professional, blunt and to the point, have good judgment and are decisive. They have grandiose plans and like to live the good life. They are take charge people. They view people objectively. They let you know in no uncertain terms that they are the boss. They should learn to base their decisions on their own needs rather than on what others want.

9. The Performer : 9's are natural entertainers. They are very caring and generous, giving away their last dollar to help. With their charm they have no problem making friends and nobody is a stranger to them. They have so many different personalities that people around them have a hard time understanding them. They are like chameleons, ever changing and blending in. They have tremendous luck, but also can suffer from extremes in fortune and mood. To be successful they need to build a loving foundation.

My #2 is surprisingly accurate. Have a go at it and see if your # is you leave me a comment and let me know.

Damn it's cold!

Spring, hmmmm what's that? It seems we're not destined to have spring this year. We've had nice days +19 and really that is a nice day, but when it drops to close to 0 the next day and you have to turn your heat back on in May it makes me cranky. The plus, Kamryns U8 all girls team soccer game was cancelled on Tuesday. Seems the U8 boys team still had to play. All I can say is this parent appreciated not having to stand outside on Tuesday in the freezing, cold, howling wind. Ya I'm a wimp.

I guess being a Manitoban at heart this weather shouldn't really surprise me. I remember many a May long weekend bundle up in winter clothes sitting beside the campfire.

It's hard to convince Jillian that it's not really dress weather, the girl is in a I LOVE DRESSES mode. It is so funny. Everyday when she gets up it's "can I wear a dress Mommy?" You know it's a true obsessesion when she talks about dresses in her sleep, which she does or so I discovered at 4am the other morning after she had climbed into bed with us. Funny kid!

I had a very nice Mother's Day, we had a b-b-que with my Aunt and cousins. An overall nice quiet day, my favorite kind. We also had our 1st batch of Santa Fe salad of the year! Mmmmmm I love me some Santa Fe salad.

My family made sure I had cards and all the fun stuff that goes with Mother's Day. Here is the card I received from my kitty Piper.

A Mother's Day
from the Cat

Nice lady pets me
Scoops the poop out of my box
I call her mommy

Happy Mother's day
Love, the Cat

Boy did I giggle, Carlton Cards made my day.

I miss my Mom, especially on days like Mother's Day. It's days like this (one of many) that always makes me wonder why I agreed to moving. I'm so glad I have my girls with me, they truly make the days worthwhile.

It's a word with many meanings. Do we think about these meanings. I myself not so much.

A)The act of remitting.
B)A condition or period in which something is remitted.
C)Medicine Abatement or subsiding of the symptoms of a disease.
D)The period during which the symptoms of a disease abate or subside.
E)Release, as from a debt, penalty, or obligation.
F)Forgiveness; pardon.

Is it a natural instinct to ignore the word remission in it's true meaning? That the problem it doesn't really go away? That it will likely come back again and possible again and again after that? That it can be a very short remission, like a year and then someone you love is faced with the battle once again. The battle to fight the dreaded "C" word since you are no longer in "remission". Cancer is not a kind word it, I think affects more people that it doesn't. Don't we all know someone that has had cancer??

I posted about a friend that was battling Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia APL (I've tried to link the post but still not sure if I've figured it out it was posted Aug 13/07 since I don't tink the link thingy worked)
as of a week ago this past Friday the fight was back on. A wonky blood test resulted in a Bone Marrow Biopsy a fast result and bam back in the hospital for chemo the following day.

See this is where my misunderstanding of the word remission comes in. I mean don't they do chemo to kill the cancer so it doesn't come back? Isn't that what all the evil drugs, the losing your hair, the throwing up, the feeling like you are at deaths door are about? To KILL THE CANCER?? But then I guess that would be a cure and there isn't really a cure for cancer is there? Well atleast not that they tell us, is there money in a cure? Likely not as much as in the treatments provided (but that is a discussion for another day)

My bubble was bursted when the real meaning of "remission" was kindly pointed out to me by my Mom (thank you by the way as I was clueless, really I was). I really did think that when you went into remission it wasn't going to come back, ever.

So I sit here now 14 hours away from my life long friend and all I can offer her is phone calls of support, my love and I don't know. It is times like this that being away from home really sucks.

Please pray for my friend Jennifer and her family as she battles this round of APL
